Vikings left with nothing despite impressive display
After an impressive victory against the Turks it was now time to face the Londoners. A strong team that won the league last year so the Vikings would have to look for something special to come away with a result. The Vikings made a good start to the match with the midfield often winning possession of the ball and the strikers worked hard to stress the Londoners defense. The defense also looked very comfortable and same for Anan in goal.<read full report here>
Brave Vikings conquer Turks
Many Scans still not convinced that we had given up our losing ways hesitated to venture out against Anatolia on a hot Sunday afternoon. However, 11 brave souls showed up at the Arsenal Pitch to take on the Turks (sort of). The game started with the Scans full of energy and looking to put a win on the board. Claus moved down the left flank and shot across the goal and the ball rolled free in the box. Tuna from a sharp angle launched a shot on goal only to have the goalie deflect the ball away. <read full report here>
Vikings - Frogs 0-3 W.O.
Given the long Chinese New Year weekend and the Lover's Holiday (Joel) - Valentine's Day the romantic Scans were unable to muster a team to fight the Frogs and forfeited the game.
Vikings- Pickled Liver 1-0
The Scans ventured to Patana with the hopes of ending their slide down the table and absence of points. A thin group of hardy Scans with many players missing, travelling or otherwise given up on the Team, battled the heat of the afternoon and dominated the Pickled Liver and Martin V was able to neatly slot a penalty after being violently pulled down in the box. Anan, a new goalie recruit, was able to achieve a clean sheet and stop everything that the Livers could throw at him which deservedly earned him man of the match. Final Score Scans 1 (Martin V) - Pickled Liver 0.
Viking's losing streak continues It was time for the Vikings to renew the rivalry with GAS. Both teams have been struggling to get points on the board so in terms of relegation this was a really important encounter. As Marcus was unavailable it was Breitner who took on the keeper position. Ruj and Joel were missing as well.<read full report here>
Tired Vikings can't stand the distance Vikings played a solid first half with plenty of chances to take the lead. As it often happened this season it was the opponent that scored first when Sunbelt took the lead. This didn’t stop the Vikings who kept producing opportunities and it was Mofok who set up Claus for the equalizer. 1-1.<reasd full report here>
Coach Mofok upbeat despite new loss It was the usual conditions with hot weather because of the early afternoon kick off. Bullshead aimed at keeping possession and making the Vikings chase the ball but initially the Vikings managed to hold their positions. And the first big chance came when Fran found himself alone with the keeper, but unfortunately his effort went over goal. Few minutes later Bullshead took the lead after a neat finish from their striker. 0-1. <read full report here>
Vikings made to pay for poor attitude As the game came underway it was IPlay that had most of the possession without creating much danger. The Vikings seemed very unfocused and struggled to string some passes together. Often the strikers got caught offside but the IPlay defense looked shaky and Vikings seemed most likely to get the first goal. Andreas was fouled by the keeper just inside the penalty area and he took the resulting penalty kick himself. Unfortunately the keeper made a diving safe and kept the ball out. <read full report here>
Vikings finally put an end to losing streak Faced with a mean losing streak and a depleted squad the Vikings were up against all odds as they took on Division 1 leaders British Club. Marcus was out for this game so Hallas took on the keeper position. Richard was still not ready for his long awaited comeback and Joel, Mikkel, Niklas, Billing and Christian “Øffe” were missing as well.<read full report here>
Cosmos make Vikings pay for sloppy defending Judging from the 4-5-1 formation it seemed Vikings were going for the cautious approach. This was not the case however as the team came roaring out from the very first minute and took the game to the opponent. Breitner delivered a free kick into the penalty area and Jannik fired over goal from close range. Minutes later it was Andreas showing off some of his trickery and after dodging a couple of tackles he was finally brought down in the penalty area. <read full report here>
Scoreline all too familiar for Vikings as they slip to yet another defeat After last weeks cup defeat to Bulls Head it was once again time to fight for points in the league standings where the Vikings have slipped to second last in the table. Again many players were missing which seems to be the major problem this season. <read full report here>
Graeme's return to the sideline not enough for the Vikings First game in the cup was against fellow Div. 1 team Bullshead. With Chris, Niklas, Christian “Øffe” and Billing all out for the clash it was a small squad available. Good thing was that Simon could play. For this game there was even a coach and who else but Graeme who had flown in from Schina for a last chance to order the Vikings around.<read full report here>
Londoners demolish pathetic Vikings After last week’s game against Bulls Head had been postponed due to rain it was now time to face defending champions Londoner FC. A tough game was expected on a Patana field that had seen better days. Another problem was the choice of white shirts as the Londoner had just invested in a new wardrobe of the same color. As they insisted on wearing their new outfits the Vikings were forced to put on some red tops. This was obviously a big disadvantage as the outcome of the game would later prove. <read full report here>
Vikings beaten by Les Gaulois in hard fought battle! After a win in the first game of the season and a solid performance in the Summer League the Vikings felt confident to take on French team Les Gaulois. Niklas and Hallas were not available for this game while Richard remains a long term injury. The team started out in a 4-1-4-1 formation hoping to close down the strong French midfielders. This worked well enough and the Vikings came close to taking the lead after both Ruj and Martin V had chances. It was however Les Gaulois that scored first after a corner kick was headed into goal. 0-1 <read full report here>

Vikings claim all 3 points in Div 1 comeback! After a tough preseason with mixed fortunes it was finally time to kick off the Div 1 campaign. For this important game a strong squad of 15 players had turned up – and the ones not on time went in The Sheriff’s black book. The weather was hot as ever but still the game started out in a high tempo. Sunbelt did most of the attacking with a couple of quick players up front. The Vikings didn’t manage to settle down and get some passes going so it was mostly long balls from both sides.<read full report here>
Vikings Knitting for the Needy Scandinavian Vikings Bangkok have a long relationship with BNH Hospital in Bangkok and when we were asked to knit for the needy, it was a great honour for myself and the rest of the team to give our support to this project. A bunch of football loving knitters made their way to an early Saturday “knit-off” at BNH… Great fun and who knows maybe next year we will have a knitted match uniform? J. Muhlman
Well said Mr. Muhlman! It was definitely a good experience and for those of you who weren't able to be there can check out some pictures from the knitting session. Special thanks to Angela at BNH who took good care of us and the Vikings are proud to be sponsored by BNH for yet another season! Also, make sure you visit the Let's Knit Blog to read more about this wonderful project.
Scandinavian Vikings Season Awards 08/09 Most Valuable Player – Chris Lundqvist Assistant Coach Chris has showed his true class this year with his technical abilities as a trademark. iPlay can't live with the width After the 5-1 win on Saturday it was time for the second game of the weekend. This time the opponent was I-Play which is one of the top teams in the league. Ball speed too much for Pickled Liver Pickled Liver got off to a good start as they scored an early goal from a free kick. It was taken from well outside the penalty area and somehow sneaked in low at the far post. 0-1.So not exactly the start one could have hoped for. Vikings didn’t let this affect their game and continued to enjoy most of the ball possession. As the team finally remembered to use the width, ball speed and ball security it turned out that Pickled Liver couldn’t live with it. <read full report here>

Vikings ease past disgraceful Chinese For the third time of the season Vikings took on Chinese Peking. For once it was real Scandinavian football weather with a bit of rain and most important no sunshine. There were some changes to the team since last week as Hallas and Breitner could not play but Tim and Joel were back. Again there was the missing keeper problem but Christian L and Christian H took one half each. <read full report here>
Vikings cruise to a 4-1 win against BC Masters “We got to make them pay for showing up at this age!” Quote from captain Graeme to finish of his pre game speech. Title hope all but over for Vikings Saturday came and it was finally time for the clash against GAS. There were big expectations for this game and with a win the Vikings could go top of the league. The formation was a 4-1-4-1 and since top scorer Ruj showed up late Martin V got to be the lone striker.GAS started out better of the two teams and took the initiative. The pace was quick and perhaps too quick since the passing game was non existent. Jannik received a yellow card for a mistimed tackle. It was however the Vikings who took the early lead when Hallas crossed the ball from the right side and Chris’ header found the top left corner. 1-0. <read full report here>

Selection headache for Viking coaches ahead of Chinese clash The Vikings will be looking to keep their impressive winning streak alive against the Chinese Peking this Sunday. Last time around the Vikings only managed a 3-3 draw against the bottom team. The coaches will face some difficult decisions regarding the lineup. First of all a proper keeper must be found. Then who should replace Richard in central defense? Hallas would be a natural choice but Stein could also be an option after his fantastic performance last week.Rumors suggested that Graeme and Jannik might start up front. With 12 goals between them this could be a lethal attack force. However both coaches refused to comment on this after the Tuesday night practice. <read full preview here>

Vikings ease past Patana to make it 3 in a row The conditions were back to being hot and humid and that could be one excuse for the not very entertaining game. Patana did not have a lot to offer and Vikings did only what was necessary.First chance came as Graeme had a good header from a corner kick but the keeper saved. Vikings kept possession but didn’t really look to dangerous in front of goal. Chris won the ball or actually the Patana player sort of gave it way. Vikings ride their luck to beat BSL 5-4 For the second time this season the opponent was BSL who this year is one of the top teams in Division 2. Funny thing is that BSL have never managed to take even one point away from the Vikings so a competitive match was expected. The Vikings squad was hit by a couple of absentees as first of all Michael was sick and couldn’t be in goal. Also last years MVP - Martin had a foot injury and not being able to play his usual midfield role he decided to fill in as the keeper. Worst of all was the loss of central defender Richard who unfortunately had some very urgent business to attend to – enough said!! <read full match report here>

Vikings - BC Masters Preview Vikings are facing BC Masters on Saturday looking to capitalize on the momentum from the much improved performance last weekend. The Vikings are missing a host of players for the game though, with no less than 10 players unable to participate. The team also continues to struggle in the goalkeeping department and this time new-boy Jörgen will try his luck between the posts. Also Magnus Bruun will make his debut for the Vikings and Lindy will play his first league game for the season. When asked about the starting eleven, Assistant Coach Chris was reluctant to give up too much information, but hinted that Tim Tuna could be given his first start of the season and that hattrick-hero Jannik might be reverted back to defence.
The game is at 3.00 pm and the following players will meet 2.15 pm at Expressway Police Station Football Pitch: Mofok, Chris, Breitner, Udom, Martin V, Lars, Jannik, Ruj, Stein, Tim, Magnus, Lindy, Jörgen
First win of the season as Vikings beat BSL 4-3 In the third game of the season Vikings faced the BSL Youth. Sorry Vikings crushed by Pickeld Liver The only friendly before the season premiere against the Germans was played on Saturday, when the Vikings took on Pickled Liver at Patana. In what turned out to be an awful performance, the Pickled Liver were the far superior team and were deserved winnners, 3-0. The only Viking players that stood up and deserve a bit of praise were Bretiner and Travis. The rest of the Viking players need to really step up their game if the team is going to stand any chance of promotion this season. Caoches Mofok and Chris were reluctant to answer any questions after the game but promised there will be changes to the lineup. With the goalie issue yet not solved, the Vikngs are looking at a tough start of the season.

A New Season is about to start - Sep. 2007
The 2006/2007 season ended on a very positive note. The Vikings team played some nice soccer and clinched 8th place. And in the prestigious Tesco Lotus Masters Tournament Vikings took Silver by beating last year champions BCCT and had a great game against The Allstar team that among others, fielded Ian Rush, John Barnes, and Viv Anderson(see photo section). What a great season for Scandinavian Vikings. And a big THANK YOU to the now retired coaching Team, Keld and Anders. New Coaching Partners for the 2007/2008 season are the Swedish Smorgasboys, Johan and Chris, who already made their marks by offloading non-performing players, and been recruiting new fresh legs. Pre-season warm-up against the Singaporean Vikings ended with a 2-1 win but a big loss in the beer-drinking contest (link). Furthermore, have the coaches through long negotiations managed to secure the Vikings a spot in the very prominent 2nd division. Well Done, guys! Revenge was in the air on a hot Saturday at Pattana even though it didn’t look so before the game. With Terry and Neil playing in the Bangkok 7’s tournament and C1, C2 and Sweeper all doubtful with injuries the squad was stretched to the limit. For the same reason the old super star Johan Lagerkrantz was flown in from Sweden to play what later proved to be a memorable come-back game. <Read full report here>
Vikings are hot again... - Mar 2007
Vikings are back on the winning track! After two very disappointing games
against the Japanese and British Club, we got three well-needed points against
Sunbelt. The match against Sunbelt didn't start out very well though. After
some misunderstandings in our defense, Sunbelts nr 10 could take advantage
of the situation and put it in the top corner. No chance for our excellent playing
keeper Michael. <Read full report here>
VVV's grab 2nd spot... - Feb 2007
Viking Very Veteran's (VVV's) showed up at Harrow's on Sunday, February 11th, 2007 with nearly 40% of the Vikings within striking range of the Golden 50's. With a thin squad of only 8 players the Vikings started their march to the top with a game against the strong Winking Frog team. The Vikings opened the scoring with a C1 assist to the Green Frog <Read full report here>
Anas is back... - Jan 2007
After a slow start to the season the bald and beautiful head of Anas once again popped to the surface of The Casual League. With 4 goals and a man of the match performance he looked sharp and focused like never before. The game took off in the first half when Anas got a long pass from Sweeper <Read full report here>
First win in 2007... - Jan 2007
For the first time in Vikings history several players showed up more than 3 hours before kick-off as C1 had problems informing the right kick-off time. But the 3 hours warm up paid off and there was never really any doubt about who would win the game. With Chris and Breitner in the goal and a well playing defence Irish Xchange never managed to threaten Vikings who took a 4 – 0 victory this Sunday afternoon. First half the Irish Xchange had a few chances but with a nice shot from Udon and a classic C2 goal (header on a cornerkick) it was 2-0 at halftime. Second half Chris made 2 goals and took away the last hope for the Irish Xchange. Terry was coaching the team from the sideline as he was not able to play due to 2 yellow cards in the last game. Man of the Match: Jepser Hallas
Back to losing ways... - Dec 2006
Inspired by our recent good form we started out well against the Winking Frog and could have had the lead after only a few minutes minutes but Udon put the ball wide clean through with the goalie. That didn’t put us down and we continued to produce chances with Breitner coming closest with a header of a corner which the Frog keeper somehow kept out. We would eventually get the goal we deserved... <Read full report here>
Phuket-7s Report - Dec. 2006
The Viking players arrived in Phuket around 10.30 p.m. on Friday night
and as the serious sportsmen we are, we decided to have a quite one and
just went out for some food before hitting the sack. Our first game the following morning was already at 09.21 so we wanted to have a good night sleep.
CEO was going take the bus Saturday morning from Krabi and join us later
on, but after realizing he would miss all of our games he had to. <Read full report here> AND <ScandAsia report here>
Finally... - Nov 2006
Vikings got the win they've been waiting for!! The fact that the winner came in the last minute made it even sweeter! Things could have been different though as we started out pretty sloppy and let an easy goal in already after 5 minutes when the Viking defense was unable to clear a Sunbelt cross and their striker put, what looked like a miss hit, in the back of the net behind our deputy goal keeper Breitner.. <Read full report here>
Viking Vets Just Fall Short in Final - Aug 2006
The Viking Vets just managed to field a team of 7 after new recruit Raimond finally arrived at the field after carefully searching for the pitch at the Domestic Terminal and some last minute signings of Fahri in goal and EG in defense.
The Viking Vets were still sleeping as the game began against the Japanese. <Read full report here>
Vikings Victorious in Pre-Season Opener - July 2006
Dave Moore in his debut as Goalkeeper of the Bangkok Scandinavian Vikings was victorious over the traveling squad from the Singapore Vikings. The game started with C1 low shot from the corner of the box that was just out of reach of the Singapore Goalie. Viking Vet Victories continues - June 2006
The Viking Veterans continue their victory streak this Sunday at Patana with a narrow win in the final against Winking Frog. Although Coach Uddman was out with injury and Fisker played in goal for the whole tournament the Viking vets managed to take home the trophy for the fourth time in a row. The day started brightly with The Vikings cruising through the group stages and the semis until the final that turned out to be one of the hardest ever. Winking Frog went ahead 1-0 in the first minute and held the Vikings into extra time before the equalizer fell after a corner kick. In the following penalties all Viking shooters scored and Esa made the vital save to secure the trophy once again. A narrow victory with The Vikings finding the luck just as it was needed.
Bangkok Masters - Nothing's for free - May 2006
It was 10 happy Viking players that gathered at NIST for the first day of the Bangkok Masters of 2006. First game against Soccer Experience Masters was a tough one. SEM won the Bangkok 7's just a month ago, so we where ready for a battle. A few good chances were created but unfortunately.... <Read full report here>
Casual Cup 2006: Mixed Vikings feelings - May 2006
It was with some doubts the Vikings went in to The Casual Cup in the weekend May 20 th and 21 st. With key players like Arvling, Sweeper and all of the Swedish Breitner gang missing it was very doubtful which kind of performance the team would pull off. Ending up in a tough group with Londoner, The French Frogs, The Winking Frogs, British Club and Sunbelt didn’t do much for the optimism before the tournament. <Read full report here>
Q1: Your throw-ins have resulted in 4 goals already this season. What's the secret? A1: My throw-ins are the same, my teammates just got better. Q2: You were voted MVP last year, who do you think will win the award this season? A2:I will do my best to grab it again, but if not, Jannik is looking like a good bet.
